Baby Jane Tells To DotLyrics How It Was Work With Felipe

Last Sunday, Deborah Machado (aka Baby Jane) spoke to DotLyrics readers about the importance of writing, her experience in the site, plans for the future, love and friends. During her very informal conversation, she explained her contribution for Felipe Lima's new project [A Brave New World] and how it was the creative process.

"(...)Felipe is such an adorable guy. He's very committed with his work and once he gets in a project he puts his mind and soul on it. I remember when I invited him to work in a song with me. We had a great time together, specially because he was always opened to new experience and, differently from some writers, he wasn't afraid to tried it. When he invited me to compose a piece for his work, I definetly couldn't say no. He said he was inspired by our previosly work, and somehow he got "a vision" from that idea. Three weeks later, the lyric was finished and it was undeniable... Felipe took that idea and brought to his own world. That was freaking amazing and I'm glad to be able to be a part of it.(...)

(...)I couldn't tell exactly what we've done. Felipe will probably cut my head off before I could spell some juicy information about the hit (laughs), but I could say the piece is something complete different what Felipe has already done. The piece talks about an interesting and provocative theme, it is an upbeat tempo song, I remember that while we were writing it we listened a lot of reaggeton groups and singers as Black Chiney, Jazzy T, Bulletproof, Harlem 6, among others. That would be a song for your get in the dancefloor and lose control. And I've may told you more than I should (lol)..."

And The Readers Comment SMWYA...

One month later its releasing, we decided to publish some words and opinions sent by readers from poetry sites and forums on internet. Check it out what they thought about Felipe's new hit:

"Brutal and raw. Felipe came out from his emotional bubble and show us who he really is."
                                                                                            - Jamella Cotto

"(...) An interesting feature of Felipe is his ability to astonish his readers. You read his works and when you imagine you're just getting the guy... BAM, you find out a new and unknown side of him."
                                                                                            - Scott Johnnson

"Felipe Lima finally returns to the place he never should have left."
                                                                                            - Willoweird

"Impressive! I've been on DotLyrics for almost 4 years and I'm amazed how far an artist may go to be faithful to his work. Felipe crosses the line and show us the real deal."
                                                                                            - SweetAngel76

"The piece is powerful and fierce. Its strenght comes from an fearless author that expresses his point of view so naturaly. You read the song and for a moment you can see for his eyes and feel his rage against an opressive society."
                                                                                            - H. Abrams

"Morality Bites. Felipe came out, kickin' the door and beatin' some ---. Talk about love is a beautiful thing, but sometimes you have to spit and and push some people buttons to get some reaction. At least, Felipe had the guts to hit straight instead of speaking half words. Welcome back, brother!"
                                                                                             - TheUglyTruth

"Speechless... (...)Felipe puts his heart and soul in his pieces. His concerns goes from the small details to the final product. Every word, every sentence cautiosly writen down, transformed in to images (promo and teasers). SMWYA proves that more than an inspiration for beginning writers as me, Felipe is the living proof that being true to yourself is the formula for success."
                                                                                            - Donatella

The Making Of "Amor Y Otros Desastres" - Part II

Part Two: The Influences

For the last three years, I spent a lot of time maintaining contact with many aspects of the Hispanic culture. I watched almost one hundred movies per year and I believe this was a huge factor that inspired me to write in Spanish. The movies helped me to create the idea of what I wanted to do, but I still needed to know how I would do it. So this question led me to search for Latin music and artists that I could use as a base for my work. After a long research I found wonderful songwriters and musicians, I listened to the most famous as Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Maná and Juanes till new and not-so-known singers as Bernabé and Calle 13. That was an amazing experience, learning about this new culture and bring its features to my pieces just enriched my work and helped to grow as a person. I think I finally could let an unknown part of me come to the surface and this felt so good.

The Making Of "Amor Y Otros Desastres" - Part I

Well guys, I decided to take some time to share with you a little bit of the creative process of my latest work: “Amor Y Otros Desastres”. Here I’ll tell you about the experience of writing these songs, the rhythms and influences that inspired me to create the whole concept for this new project and the expectations I had for this songbook.
Part One: The Concept
I always wanted to write something in Spanish, but I never felt it was the right time or I had the right theme to write about. I had some songs for sure, but I definitely never planned to release a songbook in Spanish, at least not at the moment. One day, I was sitting in my room and I started to scrawl some lines that came to my mind. I had one more song done and when I was saving the file I was surprised to note that I’ve already had almost 10, what it could be perfectly become a songbook. Therefore I decided I’ve had enough material to begin this “Spanish project”, but I still needed to find something to talk about, a subject that I could express the way I see and understand the Hispanic culture. I read again all the songs I’ve already written and I could realize they had something in common, but I couldn’t actually see what it was.
A few weeks later, I rent a movie called “Love and Other Disasters” (with Brittany Murphy) and when the movie ended, the answer hit me like a punch and I knew what I’d talk about: love. I’d already decided that I’d want to impress in my work some aspects of Latin culture and the way I found it was through love, or the way of feeling the many kinds of it. When people think about something related to the Spanish language they usually think about things that are tragic, passionate, intense… The songs I’d written until that moment had those features and all of them were about relationships. Love was seen and written for different angles where it could be good and sweet or painful and tragic. Because of this, the lyrics presented a wide range of emotions and each of them had a single characteristic that made them unique, even when they were about similar themes. Those singular features of each lyric made this songbook colorful and rich of different kinds of feelings. And that was the way I wanted to picture this work.

Felipe Denies Rumors About A New Releasing From "AOD"

Last friday, Dotlyric's manager posted in the forum that Felipe'd may release other lyric from his latest work - "Amor y Otros Desastres". According to the message, Felipe'd decided to schedule a date in the last week of April to promote the last song of his spanish songbook. This'd be an attempt to show to Dot's readers the great potential of the pieces, since the songs from "AOD" got a lower rank than Felipe's previous works.
After reading this post, Felipe has pronnouced that unfortunatelly the info wasn't true. In deed, "Ven" was the last song released from "Amor y Otros Desastres" and still talking about the subject, the author said it was a fantastic work and he was very satisified with the results of it. He said the lyrics lower ranks (compared to the songs from Scrapbook) was not the reason why he decided to "interrupt" the promotion of his latest project. But, it was planned a short kind of promotion for
"AOD" since Felipe'd still be working in his main project to be released in the first semester of 2010.

Personal Note

Hey there,
The year's just ended and other chapter of my life comes to an end too. I’m glad to look back and see how much accomplishments were reached in ’09. Among many things I could promote “Anthology – Volume I” and my new work “Amor y Otros Desastres”, my first book of lyrics in Spanish. Before I keep going on this first post, I wanted to thank you for supporting my works, voting and commenting them in the websites and forums all around the web. You’re the best and your back up is what makes me keep going on my works in the hard days.
This blog will be a kind of official place for me to post my works (yeah, the complete albums finally) and for posting other info too like some news about what I’m doing, releases dates, top positions and etc… This week, “news” and “about the author” section will be opened for access, in the next days new areas will be free for access. I hope can count with your suggestions to improve this page too, after all this is one of the most direct ways I have to hear what you think about the stuff I’m producing.
Now about the future, a new year is beginning and I’m thrilled with all the possibilities I can see in my way. A lot of things have changed, making me change too. In the middle of this process I grew up, now I’m starting to see the world around me and people from a different perspective. This new “point of view” crosses all the parts of my life, influencing every one of them and being put it out from different ways. Something is coming and I hope I can share this with you through my work. Thank you all for everything so far and keep tuned for what’s coming ahead because the future is bright and I saved a lot of surprises for you…
Love,
Felipe
